Power To The Hat!

Have you ever seen someone walking down the street, with a hat on, and said to yourself.. “wow that is the least fashionable looking person I’ve ever seen” …Maybe… But most of the time, all you can think about is how great their outfit looks, when really, it’s all in the hat.

My favorite thing to do, mostly on Fridays, is to roll out of bed in my plain T I wore to sleep and throw on some jeans, with a military jacket, and … drum roll please… a hat. Seriously. This simple item makes any outfit suddenly appear more refined, even though all you did (really) was add that hat!

Layering Hack

Layering a look can be fun! It’s most commonly seen during colder seasons as a go to outfit choice. But when it’s hot out, the last thing most people want to do is add more. So what do you do? Well, there are a few options. Lighter fabrics are always best. If you have sleeves, get a fabric top that breathes such as cotton, even denim. I went the tank top route. (easy-peezy)

I love layering with crop tops in particular. With this look I picked a loose, fluid first layer and a fitted tank crop top for the top layer. And to finish any look with ease, add a hat. 😉 When will it cool down in California? One can only hope it’s soonimg_9852img_0017img_9832img_9854img_9837img_9808-1img_9975

Styled To Explore

Eric and I haven’t had much time to explore the new neighborhood we moved to a couple of months ago due to us getting a puppy who couldn’t go outside until she had all her shots. The constant fear that she would destroy the apartment if we left her, held us back from doing much. But now that we know our beast is not as crazy as we had expected, we slowly began going out, letting her enjoy the apartment to herself. (so far, no disasters)

We found that we have QUITE a lot to do in the new neighborhood, and this is something to be happy about. A walk-able living area, is a happy living area. There’s an outdoor cafe, which has afternoon tea and scones! So European. There are also a couple of bars, and my personal favorite, a park, that is about 100 feet from our front door where people BBQ, play on the playground, have yoga and exercise classes, and, cutest of all, there’s a small “library” stand where you drop off a book to get a book. It was pretty awesome.

In His Clothes

When it’s really hot out, it feels good to wear a dress. Sometimes, your boyfriends long tank will fiill the position of “dress of the day” perfectly! Of, course there are guidelines. Make sure the shirt is an appropriate length, and if the arm holes are large, wear a sports bra, bralette, or bandeau underneath…. (bathing suits work too).  Then accessorize!

It has been hot hot hot this summer, and I really wanted to wear a dress, but wanted to have some fun with it, so I pulled out Eric’s tank, and it worked. I then accessorized with a Coco Tree necklace, layerd with a Hei-tiki necklace. (will explain it’s meaning below) Bag was handmade by my mom, and it’s colors were perfect for bringing out the purple in my stone.

The Hei-Tiki is an ornamental pendant of the Māori. They are commonly referred to as tiki. Tourist versions are commonly found throughout New Zealand. One theory of the origin of the hei-tiki suggests a connection with Tiki, the first man in Māori legend Who was said to have come from the stars.

img_9792Above all the Maori tiki is also a symbol of commemoration of ancestors. A tribute to forefathers. Especially the greenstone jade carved tiki pendants that were thought to adopt the spirits of the persons who wore them before. This way they became vessels of ancestral knowledge and energy. That’s probably why the wearer of a tiki necklace (or hei tiki) is considered to have inner balance and strength, great wisdom, and a clear mind. He is said to be a thinker, a wise and loyal person. The reference to tiki as “the teacher of all worldly things” fits into this description.

I was given this necklace as part of a costume when I was a Polynesian dance performer. We did the Maori Dance, an ancient war dance traditionally used on the battlefield, as well as when groups came together in peace. Haka Maori dances are a fierce display of a tribe’s pride, strength and unity.img_9795.jpgimg_9782img_9750.jpg

Little Purple Dress

Heyy Everyone. Don’t you just love this (Lilac) dress, and custom made coat from Eshakti, (that was sent to me) and is just lovely. The site is great, with so many options for all ages, and all pieces are custom sized for comfort. Absolutely worth checking out.

Purple is a rare occurring color in nature and as a result is often seen as having sacred meaning. Lavender, orchid, lilac, and violet flowers are considered delicate and precious. It is an empowering color, combining the calm stability of blue and the fierce energy of red. The color purple is often associated with royalty, nobility, luxury, power, and ambition. Purple also represents meanings of wealth, extravagance, creativity, wisdom, dignity, devotion, peace, pride, mystery, independence, and magic. SO today, I hope you feel empowered, one of a kind, and precious. LOVE you all!
